Hard to believe, but Memorial day has passed and summer is just around the corner. It seems like just a few weeks ago we were huddling by the woodstove. It’s great to see the improving weather, and although its been a bit cold and damp, mother nature has been doing her thing. Although the spring has been lousy for us humans, the plants have had a fantastic response. Blue Moon Farm is bursting with plants. Most of our perennials have been hardened off and are out in the field now, either in flower or budded-up and ready to flower. The bearded irises–Rare Treat, Picasso Moon, and Immortality are in flower now and are mind blowing. You can’t walk past them without gasping! Other equally stunning flowers include the columbines, their blossoms look like mini shooting stars. We are also excited about Saponaria, Creeping Phlox, Woodland Phlox, Armeria, Tiarella, Baptisia, Nepeta, Foxglove and Senecio. The perennial season is here, stop on by and take a look!
When you visit Blue Moon Farm this year, you will see some additions and changes. Once again, we will have a great cutting garden, which was planted this week. Be sure to stop by from mid–summer into fall to pick your own bouquet. Dahlias, Snapdragons, Zinnias, Cleome, Verbena Bonariansis all make fresh cut flowers.
We have added two display gardens next to the cutting bed. These gardens will feature many of the plants we use in our own gardens and in our customers’ gardens. It’s a great way to see how these plants grow and look in a garden setting. We are also in the process of installing a small pond which we hope to plant with many plants native to our local wetlands and wooded areas. We have been planning this for the last few years, and now finally it’s happening–be sure to check out the progress while you are here.
